Human rights, as we know them today, are the product of an intellectual movement that began in the 17th century. This movement aimed to raise public awareness about fundamental rights and to compel governments to respect those rights. A major turning point in this process was the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948—an international effort that emerged in the aftermath of World War II to confront tyranny and discrimination.

This declaration, along with its associated covenants and additional protocols, laid the foundation for what is now known as international human rights law—a system that obliges states to uphold universal human standards and establishes mechanisms to monitor their compliance.

Despite the importance of this field, there remains a lack of comprehensive and practical resources. This book seeks to address that gap by compiling and explaining the key documents of international human rights, providing a useful resource for professors, students, and researchers, and contributing to the promotion of awareness and the advancement of legal scholarship.
